From Faith to Action: 3 Biblical Mindset Shifts to Help You Dream Bigger

Raise your hand if you’re like me and you struggle to start things. Maybe it’s a new project in your home, or that business idea you’ve been holding on to for years. Sometimes getting started can feel harder than the project itself. I’ve been there too. Whether it’s big or small, the struggle is real. But while reading Genesis 13 the other day, I discovered 3 mindset shifts that can help us move from hesitation to action.

In Genesis 13, after Abram and Lot part ways, God gives Abram this promise…

“After Lot had gone, the Lord said to Abram, “Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession.” Genesis 13:14-15 NLT

Mindset Shift #1 - What you see 👀, is what you get.

In this verse God gave Abraham a vision. He said, “look as far as your eye can see and all the land is yours for I am giving it to you.”

When God told Abraham to “look as far as your eye can see,” He had already promised the land. So why did he ask him to look?

God let Abraham’s vision set the limits of His blessing. The same is true for us: what you dare to see in faith is what you’ll begin to walk in.

The first mindset shift you need is understanding that: What you see is what you get.

Just like Abraham, God is giving you control over the limits of the dreams he has given you! God entrusts us with dreams, but often the limits we see are the limits we live in. It’s time to remove some of those limits.

💭 Reflection: What limits am I putting on the visions and dreams God has given me?

Mindset Shift #2 - Action expands your vision  🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️💨

“Go and walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you.” Genesis 13:17 NLT

After showing Abraham the land, God didn’t stop there. He told him to move—“go and walk.” Why? Because vision grows as we take steps. Even the sharpest human eyesight can’t compare to God’s perspective, but God knew Abraham’s faith would expand as he acted.

The second mindset shift you need is this: Action expands your vision. Where and how far Abraham goes is limited by how far he allows himself to see and walk in faith. In the same way, our obedience in faith opens the door for God to reveal more.

Notice the wording: “I am giving you the land.” Not past tense—present tense. God was in the act of fulfilling His promise, waiting for Abraham to step into it. Faith without works is dead, but works without faith are limited (James 2:14-26). Faith and action work together to remove the boundaries and limits we’ve placed on God’s plan.

Don’t just pray for vision—start walking it out.

💭 Reflection: In what ways can I begin taking steps of faith toward my vision and dream today?

Mindset Shift #3 - God wants us to dream bigger!

In Genesis 13 God is reminding us that it’s all about the power of faith. God is not only giving us permission to dream, he encourages us to dream bigger.

What’s your dream? What has God planted in your heart?

If you’re unsure, it may not be because God never told you. It may be because you dismissed it when you couldn’t see it.

Remember mindset shift #1? What you see 👀 is what you get. Our vision matters so much that God gave us the gift of faith to carry us where our sight can’t.

That’s how important shifting our mindset is! Our ability to see in faith can be life or death for our dreams.

“Action is the place where faith becomes sight.”

It’s time to dream bigger! God’s dreams for your life are always bigger than your limits.

💭 Reflection: What dreams do I need to resurrect from the graveyard of “impossible” dreams? How can I challenge myself to believe for bigger things in my life today?

Getting started isn’t easy—but Genesis 13 shows us the keys to moving forward. First, what you see is what you get—your vision sets the boundaries of what’s possible. Second, action expands your vision—every step of faith opens up more of what God wants to show you. And third, God wants us to dream bigger—His plans are always greater than the limits we’ve placed on ourselves.

So the next time you struggle with getting started, remember: God has already gone before you. All He asks is that you lift your eyes, take a step of faith, and dare to believe bigger.

💭 Which shift do you need to focus on the most right now—seeing differently, taking action, or dreaming bigger?
